EDUCATION UPDATE

We love nurses!   They are so dedicated to continuing education and increasing the quality of care provided to clients. Come join the Mississippi Nurses Foundation in providing continuing nursing educational programs for nurses.  The Mississippi Nurses Foundation is an approver of continuing education activities.

There are two types of continuing education activities:

  • EDI Provider paced activities (examples:  live seminars, live webinars)
  • EDII Learner paced activities (examples:  online courses, e-books, self-study modules)

A CE application can be obtained by contacting Kasey Dorr, administrative assistant, at kdorr@msnurses.org. After completing the CE application, submit via email to Kasey Dorr with $150.00 per application fee. Applications submitted less than 45 days before the presentation date have a late fee of $60.00.  Contact Dr. Susan Hart, CE Accreditation Administrator, at dr.susanhart@gmail.com for assistance.  After the CE application is approved, the activity can be presented as often as desired with notification letter to the MNF office and a follow-up evaluation summary.

Update on Content Eligible for Awarding Content Hours

The Commission on Accreditation (COA) has permitted in-service and/or staff development activities eligible for continuing nursing education.  The educational activity is intended to build on the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of education, practice, research, administration, or theory development.  The learning activity’s focus is to improve the health of the public and RN’s pursuit of their professional career goals.  Educational activities are developed to address a gap in knowledge, skills and/or practices for a special target audience to include registered nurses (2013 ANCC Primary Accreditation Application Manual for Providers and Approvers).

There are two types of providers of continuing educational activities.  The Provider is any individual or organization that is dedicated to assessing learner needs, planning, implementing and evaluating an educational activity which adheres to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program.

When the Provider has conducted many (three or more) CE activities, they can choose to move to Approved Provider status by submitting a self-study with three sample CE activities which were conducted in the last two years.  As an Approved Provider, the agency continues to assess learner needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities which adhere to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program within the agency without submission of an application to the Foundation with each activity.  Every three years, the Approved Provider submits a self-study of the continuing education process and three educational activities conducted along with a $1500-1750 fee.  A report of the number of educational activities conducted is submitted to the Foundation annually.
