DRIVE WITH PRIDE!
In 2003 the Mississippi Nurses Association lobbied the Legislature and HB 940 was passed, establishing a distinctive license plate for nursing! …

The Mississippi Nurses Foundation provides scholarships and stipends to nursing students and registered nurses throughout the state of Mississippi who are pursuing degrees in nursing.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UPDATE

Beginning 2011, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will no longer allow awarding of contact hours for renewal or recertification educational activities such as BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS renewal/update courses.  Awarding contact hours for initial ACLS, PALS and other advanced “canned” courses is still permitted.

Please make sure the changes are made in your agency, so that we stay in compliance with ANCC accreditation criteria.

To learn more about this change, please log on to www.nursecredentialing.org

We love nurses!  They are so dedicated to continuing education and increasing the quality of care provided to clients.  Come join the Mississippi Nurses Foundation in providing continuing nursing educational programs for nurses.

There are two ways to provide continuing education nursing educational programs through the Foundation:

  • Provider: any individual or organization that is dedicated to assessing learner needs, planning, implementing and evaluating an educational activity which adheres to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program.
  1. The provider submits an application and a fee to the Foundation for approval of the activity.
  2. A committee of nurse reviewers evaluates the activity for approval of contact hours.  The educational activity can be learner directed (independent learning, module, web based) or provider directed (workshop, course, video, teleconferences).
  3. The educational activity can be repeated as many times as desired within a designated two year period.
  • Approved Provider: any individual or organization conducting more than 10 educational activities annually can move to Approved Provider status.
  1. Approved Provider continues to assess learner needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities which adhere to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program within the agency without submission of an application to the Foundation with each activity.
  2. Every three years, the Approved Provider submits a self-study of the continuing education process and three educational activities conducted along with a fee.
  3. A report of the number of educational activities conducted is submitted to the Foundation annually.
