EDUCATION UPDATE

Please note fee changes on payment forms under resources.  The individual activity fees have changed based on the number of hours requested per educational activity.

We love nurses!   They are so dedicated to continuing education and increasing the quality of care provided to clients. Come join the Mississippi Nurses Foundation in providing continuing nursing educational programs for nurses.  The Mississippi Nurses Foundation is an approver of continuing education activities.

There are various types of continuing education activities:

  • EDI Provider paced activities (examples:  live seminars, live webinars)
  • EDII Learner paced activities (examples:  online courses, e-books, self-study modules)

A CE application along with the individual activity payment form must be submitted via email to Kasey Dorr, administrative assistant, at kdorr@msnurses.org.  Contact Dr. Susan Hart, CE Accreditation Administrator, at dr.susanhart@gmail.com for assistance.  After the CE application is approved, the activity can be presented as often as desired within the two year approval period and with an email notification of the repeat dates to the MNF office and a follow-up evaluation summary.

Continuing nursing education (CNE) is planned to improve nursing practice and positively impact outcomes for the patient, a population, or the healthcare system.  American Nurses Credentialing Center (2015) defines CNE as “learning activities to build upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of practice, education, administration, research, or theory development, to the end of improving the health of the public and RN’s pursuit of their professional career goals” (2015 ANCC Primary Accreditation Approver Application Manuel, p. 23).

There are two types of providers of continuing educational activities.  The Provider is any individual or organization that is dedicated to assessing learner needs, planning, implementing and evaluating an educational activity which adheres to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program.  PROVIDER Individual Activity Application with sample attachments

When the Provider has conducted many (three or more) CE activities, they can choose to move to Approved Provider status by submitting a self-study with three sample CE activities which were conducted in the last two years.  As an Approved Provider, the agency continues to assess learner needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities which adhere to the relevant criteria of the ANCC Accreditation Program within the agency without submission of an application to the Foundation with each activity.  Every three years, the Approved Provider submits a self-study of the continuing education process and three educational activities conducted along with a fee.  A report of the number of educational activities conducted is submitted to the Foundation annually.  For more information on becoming an Approved Provider contact the office or email Dr. Susan Hart at dr.susanhart@gmail.com.
