Dr. Kay-Lewis Abney Award

Background:

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a post graduate Nursing degree program in Mississippi; must be a resident of Mississippi; express a need for financial support and, demonstrate examples of their ability be a positive influence on others, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.

 Criteria:

·      Currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a Mississippi university MSN, DNP or PhD program;

·         Copy of an official transcript showing GPA of 3.0 or higher

·         2 Letters of Reference from either faculty or direct supervisor - Letters should include specific examples of applicant’s character that support their ability to provide excellent patient care.

·         Essay

·         Demonstrate a need for financial support.

 Essay Requirements:

·         Addresses the topic: “How the Kay Abney Award will help me become a nurse professional and how I will use my character to be a positive influence on others.”

  • minimum of 500 word and maximum of 750 words

  • typed and double-spaced on letter-sized paper.

Complete Application Must Include:

·         Student information form;

·         Essay;

·         Official transcript showing GPA of 3.0 or higher

·          2 Letters of Reference

·         Letter from school verifying the student is enrolled and in good academic standing.
