Martha Douglas Memorial Scholarship
Background:
Every success begins with a vision. Martha Douglas was a visionary leader for the handful of school nurses in Mississippi beginning in the 1980’s. Martha’s dream was to have many school nurses in Mississippi to better serve the children. Through joining the National Association of School Nurses, funded by Martha, the small number of school nurses across the state had a model to develop school nurse leaders to advance school nursing in Mississippi. Although Martha never held an office or chaired a committee, she spurred the organization of MSNA by her passion, encouragement, and loving example of excellence in her many years of school nursing. Martha planted the seed, others came behind her to be the sunshine and rain. Martha’s vision for school nursing is now a growing reality as that handful of nurses from the 80’s now number in the hundreds. She accomplished exactly what she envisioned…the spread of love through healthcare for the children of Mississippi. Her dream continues today through the advancement of school nursing in Mississippi
